The motivating concept in Al’s designs is the creation of spaces, large or small, that will attract people and move them to feel; whether it be awe, contentment, security or even curiosity to move on to the next space. Knolltop strives to create appropriate settings for each project, incorporating high quality traditional materials and a classic design sense that lends a timeless feel and permanence to each space. Our designs offer sensitivity to the environment and offer artful solutions to site problems.
Structures are a important in our designs. Walls, fences and hedges serve to define space or provide seating as well as providing a sense of intrigue as you move through the landscape. Fifty years from now we want the structure of the garden to exist. E.G. a stone wall, a white cedar fence or an arbor should define the space.
Good landscape design creates outdoor rooms and functional spaces that provide shade, windbreaks for cold days or a quiet place to sit.
